Hello dear ThumbCal users and friends!

At first, please excuse the very looooong and deep silence
I did not find the right time for ThumbCal the last months. (It is not my main employment) But now it looks a bit better. :D

As a first step back into ThumbCal development, here is the beta of ThumbCal 1.4.

A quick changelog (Beta 4):
- recurrence of events can now be set to occur also on each Nth day
- fixed some problems when screen orientation changed
- smooth list scrolling
- a very early and rudimental search function (don't be afraid - I will spend more time to make a useful one the next weeks)
- fixed the appointment duplicate problem on some WM6.5 builds
- some other small fixes

A short to do list for 1.4.0 release version:
- improve the search functionality (especially for recurring events)
- task sorting also via start date
- perhaps better time/time span input controls with scrolling
- bug fixes

Of course there are a lot more things that have to be done, I did not forget them ;)

Feel free to play around and post your comments.
I will try to answer but I can not promise that I will manage all replies, although I will read and consider your suggestions.

Changelog Beta 5:
- Added the option to exclude categories in the filter screen
- more options for displaying tasks (look at the last item in the settings list)
- there are now 5 buttons at the bottom for directly switching to either week view or agenda
- no more long tap action on the view button; the option for splitted month view can now be found in settings screen
- new date/time/timespan pickers
- The search "engine" now searches for events within the next 366 days. An recurring event is only displayed by it's next occurence
- in all views an icon for recurring events is displayed
- some fixes, improvements and cosmetical changes

Changelog Beta 6:
- scrolling on vga screens became very sluggish with Beta 5 -> fixed
- in search view you must hit the button to start searching; removed the automatic search start after input

...
...
...

Changelog Beta 12: (20th Feb 2010)
- scrolling smothness on vga/wvga screens especially in agenda view improved/fixed
- search funtion now starts to search 750 milliseconds after entering the last character
- advanced recurrence pattern editor (puh, that was a fun..., I hope, everthing is as it should work now. Documentation for this is not the best or I am not smart enough.)
- brought back the small context menu on long tapping the rightmost menu button at the bottom (month view, week view, day view) now with two options: jump to today and jump to tomorrow
- advanced category colour editor: the old & simple picker and three scroll wheels for changing the colour via RGB values (quad steps from 0 to 255)
- fixed the rucurrence icon for tasks problem
- some cosmetics and small fixes
- when modifying a recurring event, the application will not be locked as long as before . This was a big problem.

There are quite some words and phrases that need to be translated especially for recurrence patterns. At the moment, if you don't use english language you may get a bit of language salad in some views... ;)

Changelog Beta 13: (27th Feb 2010)
- added the option to change the kind of time input (scroll wheels or keypad)
- added the option to strike out past appointments
- translations/language file items for recurrence pattern editor/display
- when show tasks by start & due date is activated, tasks are show from start until due date
- some adjustments and fixes

I know, there are several things on your wishlists but for now I will not add more new features to the 1.4.0.
I will only fix bugs and stability issues and then 1.4.0 becomes a public release.
But I will definitely consider your suggestions for further development, since it will not stop with 1.4.0. (e.g.: better skinning/icons, more options to show hide the coloured dots, and more)

Changelog final version 1.4.0 : (7th March 2010)
- the date/time/timespan picker wheels now allow to change the values also by tapping in steps of 1 (up/down)
- search function now finds contact birthdays and annyversaries
- search function now also finds appointments in the past; however, recurring events will always be listed with it's next upcoming occurrence
- bug fixes

Please let me know how your thoughts about the new date/time/timespan pickers. Are they useful or is it just a nice looking toy?
Do you agree with the current search functionality?

Thanks for breathing new life into ThumbCal :D . You had me worried.

Working fine on my 6.1 device. Installed right on top of my old install with no issues. I see there is a new skin included too ;) . Did not overwrite Subject/Location files or change any settings. I had everything backed up but good anyway.

The search feature looks like a good start. FYI, I typed in "Mart" to search for Marty's Birthday, and got the instance from 2004, when I first loaded the date in Outlook, but no other subsequent events (05, 06, 07, etc.). Because it's recurring it may be normal, but when I bring up the most recent birthday event, 2/4/2010, there is no reference to the original event date. I tell Outlook to only store 6 months of old appointments which makes this a bit strange, but again may be due to the recurring event. Just an FYI. The search also brought up Martin Luther King Day (US) for 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Good work.

Oh yes, sorry. It is built for WM6.x. I will provide a build for WM5 this very day.

*EDIT: The WM5 version is available now. Please take it from the first post above.

Thanks, that worked fine.

Do you plan to enable display of Tasks starting in Start Date rather than only on Due Date? That's the only deficiency I can see in the product, from my perspective - I was hoping that would be in 1.4

i strongl miss, if i start thumbcal , then i switch back to homescreen (thumbcal is running in background..)
the i want to activate it again - so i don't call taskmanager and then click thumbcal ..... i do this via: lnk in manila... clik on thumbcal, but then it doesn't switch to thumbcal, then it start thumbcal again and old task seems to be killed.
is it possible, if i start thumbcal (and if it is running before), then it activate only the running thumbcal ?

Is "Close on minimize" checked?

minimize is checked.
and if i go to task manager, then it is in there and i can activate it also there.
but if i start thumbcal (click on my lnk again), then it doesn't switch to old task, then it seems to be, that it close thumbcal and start it again.
(this was also on old version)

but, wait i will test it a little bit more and i will install a new ROM, maybe this is ROM related ...
